Cleopatra Lorintiu « Florentina Mosora »

The name of Florentina Mosora ( 1940-1996 ) should appear in Romania in Golden book of the Sciences. Florentina Mosora-Cleopatra Lorintiu.com-copyright ©2009
Regrettably, things are not like that. For the most part of people, Florentina Mosora's name remains that of a young and very beautiful comedienne in films old-fashioned the sixties as " Our Boys ", " Remaining Post ", " The Love at zero degrees " produced by the Romanian national cinematography.

Born January 7th, 1940 in Cluj  she obtains her license in biology in 1961 and in physical at the University of Bucharest with the subject” The applications of Mossbauer  effect in biochemistry ( 1967 ).”

After she makes the equivalence of its three diplomas in sciences, in Belgium. She was scientific researcher (1961-1967 ) and a leader of searches of the Faculty of Medicine of Bucharest.

Later she moved to the position of Associate Professor at the University of Liège in Belgium where she worked on the use of stable isotopes in medicine by mass spectrometry especially for metabolic, diagnostic studies of diabetes; She was awarded the 1979-1981 Prix Agathon de Potterfor outstanding research work in medical physics by the Agathon de Potter Foundation and the Belgian Royal Academy. In 1989 she was one of three scientists co-organizing a NATO workshop on Biomechanical Transport Processes.

Member of the Belgian Society for the Biophysics, the Royal Society of the Sciences of Liège after 1980, member of the Association of the Biochemists and the specialists in molecular biology of the university of Liège 1980-1985, member of the International Society for the study of the diseases of the civilization and the environment 1981, member of the Academy of the Sciences of New York (1982) , President of the Research Institute for the Sea and the Interaction air sea after 1989, vice-president of the French Company for  Stable isotopes after 1987, member of Council Scientist for the Research Centre Marine and Oceanographic of the University of Liège after 1987. "
Officer of the Order of Leopold II "(in 1981) , Order of the Crown " (on 1992).

Mrs. Domnica Filimon, distinguished editor, who by looking at my broadcasts at the television had the idea to tell me a story about the true life of Florentina Mosora..

This story is the base of my essay to reconstitute pages of her life for her

co-nationals. The story of a very beautiful young lady, who promised to be a successful comedienne, but who was one brilliant physicist, who leaves for grant studies in Belgium and who becomes a name important for the science.

Disappeared before her sixty years, further to ' an incurable disease, Florentina Mosora left the world, without that the Romanians honor her.

By chance, I made a shooting in Belgium, thus I seized the opportunity to meet her husband, the doctor Stefan Stan who brought me in the University of Liège. Over there I made a shooting with Mr. Jean Nihouil, professor and academic who had worked for a long time with Florentina Mosora . I insert some fragments of this interview and some comments of my film .

"My wife, Florentina Mosora,  was a perfectionist "Florentina Mosora Liege-Cleopatra Lorintiu.com Copyright © 2009

Mr Stan, your wife was appreciated by a generation of the cinema enthusiasts in Rumania, for her tonic presence in the films of the sixties. She was very beautiful and much appreciated but she did not choose the artistic career.
Florentina Mosora was liked by a generation of young people for his films. It was really a beauty, it had some roles of big successes but she chose the scientific career

She was known as actress, the film arrives easily in the hearts of people.

Exactly. I believe that 5 roles which were attributed to her physical beauty but she was not attracted by the successes light, nor by the world of the cinema.
Her road was beforehand already drawn, she was a perfectionist and a follower of scientism in the true sense of the word.

In 1961 she had obtained the diploma in biology, specialty biochemistry with the work «Biochemical Study of the skin." In 1967 she made the second specialty, in nuclear physics. Her interest was to apply the laws of the physics to the body human.

She began her researches at the physics) university of Bucharest, with the means of time.
After her arrival in Liège, she had the chance to be able to create this Chair of biophysics .Her researches included, later, bio magnetic aspects .A lot of her later publications were made in association with me, including the joints biomechanics or the biomechanics of the human body.

It is exactly that, for what I wanted to ask you: how was your collaboration with your wife? Florentina Mosora -Stefan Stan- Cleopatra Lorintiu- Copyright ©2008
The collaboration with my wife was very good and very difficult at the same time. Difficult, because she had a very strict language scientific and I, I had a medical language, which is more flexible than that of the physics and the mathematics. Our evenings were magnificent, full of relentless work, if you want. She was an extraordinary co-worker, full of idea but one we racked themselves a little: it was necessary to put all right both languages and that was easy in no way.

This book which is in front of us contains scientific communications combined between the same cover his name is the Oceanography.
In which way she became interested by interested in this discipline?

My wife wanted to take charge of oceanography with subsidizing it but as we are very close to the North Sea she wished to deepen the researches and to apply the laws of the physics, codified well to the environment.

The Royal Academy of Belgium promoted her studies and recognized her merits and published this collection of the studies.

Another interview than I had in Liège was with the professor Jacques Nihouil of the University of Liège, who answered to my questions.

Jacques Nihouil:Mrs. Florentina Mosora had two types of activities in the University of Liège . she took charge of the biophysics and the other one, Oceanography. In this domain there she specialized in a technique which based on the study of the stable isotopes.

She regulated this technique in the laboratories which she had created and who were offered by his new country, Belgium.
Her studies were a source of information about our territory’s age.

In the field of the biophysics she supported different courses on the drainage of biological liquids, blood, problems of the resistance of bones. She also supported courses and prestigious collaborations with the other universities European; she also taught the biophysics in the courses of the network of the perfection Erasmus sponsored by the European Community.

They were not many of the students capable there of making this kind of studies, but her students liked her. She had many friends, colleagues who respected her.

For the Days of the Oceanographic Study sponsored by the Academy she was always put in the honor.
In this collection of articles there are also one study signs by her.
It is necessary to know that in this domain the interdisciplinary is essential; we can not advance without teamwork.

We can not advance without the physics and the chemistry. Her work was essential.

Liege, 1996
