Cleopatra Lorintiu « Literature »

Born in the country of Transylvania Romania, Cleopatra Lorintiu is deep impressed since her childhood by the mysterious mountain’s atmosphere on the Somes Valley and the spirit of the little towns where people has a respect for classic literary values and the cultural heritage. When she’s eleven old, Cleopatra Lorintiu sent by post a short story to the National Broadcast for literature for children.

   She win a prize with her story: "Dream or desire" (voice Octavian Cotescu). Nobody know that the winner is a little girl. The editors will discover this after ten years.

   The childhood tuched also her poems not only the novels for children.

   She published the first poems in the literary magazine of Cluj Napoca , Tribuna and others literary magazines like Steaua, Amfiteatru, Luceafarul, Cronica, Convorbiri literare, Orizont, Ramuri, Ateneu. She received The National Award for young poetry "Young poets" in 1975 and 1976 and the first prize of "Nicolae Labis" contest for young poets1977. A lot of her short stories and play theatre for children are in the Gold Archive of Romanian Broadcast with the voices of greatest Romanians actors.

   During her economic studies achieved in Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, she published her first book of poems The Queen of Stolen Steps Dacia Editorial House, 1978.

In 1979 she published The hours of Colors Ion Creanga Editorial House, and The Story of dragon fly ( Libeluliada) Ion Creanga Editorial House, short stories in the same publishing house. With the novel “Renunciation” the difficulties publishing her literature really begin for Cléopatra Lorintiu. Deposited to the Publishing House Eminescu,in Bucharest,  the novel waited 5 years in editor's drawers.
   It was never published.
   In spite of the positive evaluations on "the literary value" of the novel, made by the critics arts, the censorship imposed four times to redo wide chapters, to protect the susceptibilities of the extremely dogmatic political cultural officers of time.

  Renunciation tells the history of farmers' family of the North of Moldavia, later re-forms agrarian made by the regime settled after the second world, which marked the end of the big property in Romania and the beginning of the lawsuit of collectivization forced in the agriculture.
   The story continues during the next two decades.
   The heroine has an uneven course, she dives into a hopeless life, a life limited by the constraints of a dogmatic world.
   All the characters abandon, one after the other, their ideals and their illusions.
   Indeed the characters of the novel begin to become confused with them "prototypes", the reality which inspired them.
   Considered a " pessimistic and disheartening novel " in disagreement with the doctrine of the socialism and the ideological requirements of time, the novel was finally refused, only fragments were published by the writers of the literary reviews: Cronica (of Iasi), Ateneu (of Bacau), Luceafarul and SLAST as well literary magazines for abroad.

 The subjects of the stories grouped under the title "Someone from the past" are placed in the investigation of unusual situations, the hidden sorrows as in "Santa Lucia" (a impossible love story, seen by eyes a little girl who made his violin course, somewhere in the province.)

In "Summer Rain", another impossible love between a teacher and a typographer ends badly.
"Mr. Winter with the story" oscillates between humor and sad desperation of a life in the provinces, in a small town lost over the Christmas period.
There is always a surprise in every piece of prose and there is an unspoken, the imperceptible. These stories talk about nuances, relationships or ambiguous tones very fine flats of everyday life.
"The Solitude" (which was released and taken more than ten times the journals of the time) is the story of an unusual encounter: a man exasperated, in full midlife crisis, unhappy with his life, his profession and his couple and a young woman a bit odd, very lonely and very sad he met by chance during a trip in the province. While both have the impression that they have found a soul mate, living a short love story, cut a cruel manner by the implacable fate.

"The house with ivy" is a story detached from the novel and published as” Abandon” story: An old single woman comes to believe that the young girl who visits it could be the former companion of her son disappeared. The old lady begins to live a double reality, taking more than its own fantasies as truth.

"Hating astronomy," says the summer of a doctor, arrived at the end of the roll, disgusted by his own life, in full midlife crisis but which falls under the spell of a carefree teenager, the daughter of a Family friend

"The sadness before the snow" is the story of a sentimental swing of a young woman between two men, also friends: one older, more warm and stable, the other carefree, young and spontaneous, selfish in his actions but full of life. The two comedians are in the same theatre, and give the reply in a piece of theatre, on the stage.
   Poems which draw the same atmosphere appeared on the other hand in volumes as: The Terrace with the bay-trees  (Publishing House Dacia on 1985) as

                                                 The short years
     The short years, here they have come
     The old meanings unfolded by themselves

      All that strength in vane.
      The meaning I had lost
      The false meaning, disbanded
                           The frail heart.
             Reality, how queer
                           The compact cold.

      And the memory, stripes, stripes.

      Feathers flying from an old pillow.
      Take a step and you ram
      The unseen wall.

      You reach out with our hand and recover it bloodstained.

  Influenced by Jacques Perry's writing, she publishes the book "Presque imaginaire "(Almost imaginary), put under one motorcycle taken by a book of the writer admired:"How is made that you do not see that the life is beautiful, wild, strange, kind, desperate, sublime and almost imaginary? "
In the which we find the despair of its abandoned novel and the sensation of captivity, heavy:
"Trapped now, I have only to discuss. The spring casts my ration of light. it gilds this beggar's palm this life, almost imaginary"

The author had herself made several such voyages and habit of keeping notes: the substance for next literary documentaries.

 She published in Luceafarul ( Morning Star) prestigious literary magazine, critics and articles about Chikamatsu Monzaimon, Maurice Blanchot, Cesare Pavese, Szabo Lorincz, Franck O’ Harra, Cesare Pavese, Odyseas Elytis, Robert Pinsky, Sylvia Plath, Frank O’Harra, Maurice Druon, Marina Tsvetaeva.

   She published weekly chronics in the literary radio broadcast and she published poems, short stories and critics in the Romanian literary magazines : Romania literara, Luceafarul, Amfiteatru, Cronica, Convorbiri literare, Tribuna, Steaua, Orizont, Slast, Viata romaneasca, Ateneu.

   Her poems are in TV recital by actors like Marcel Iures and Mirela Gorea 1984 august, Romanian Television realized by Tudor Vornicu, Ileana Pop and Ana Potra.

                             Between 1984 -1987 she revised four times his novel Abandon , refused by the Romanian communist system of Censorship. It will be never publish .

After the death  of Artur Silvestri, Romanian writer, she published an important book about the literature of this critic and publisher . The vocation of the lonely way(   Editorial House ,Carpathia press),2009.

She recives in 2010 The prize "Romania tainica"  of Romanian Association for Heritage. for her films and for this book.

Cleopatra Lorintiu was awarded   the Naji Naaman's Literary prize ( Honor Prize for complete works at the eight picking season 2009-2010 in recognition of the meritorious manuscript Anii Scurţi and become honorary member of "Maison Naaman pour la Culture" . Her poems were published in the Anthology of poetry "Literary prizes 2010"(Lebanon).
